2005-01-20 01:50:00 Hi I am having problems with my PC. My PC makes this annoying siren sound like a police car. I will see it loading up on the monitor then it will shut down before windows can start. I use Windows XP. I installed a IC7-G Motherboard (ABIT) socket 478 pin with a Intel Pentium 4 Processor (3GHZ 3.2Mhz). My power is set at 115 Watts and I have a Maxtor 20GB Hard Drive and 256 MB Ram. Need help. Don't know what to do.

2005-01-20 02:08:00 Sounds like the overheat protection kicking in... is the heatsink on properly and the fan turning? wintertide (1306)
2005-01-20 02:08:00 If "power is set to 115 watts" means you have set yor Voltage switch to 115 volts, the PC is either now very dead or very soon will be. NZ is 230 Volts.

The siren is the motherboard complaining that it's about to die from over temperature.

2005-01-20 02:30:00 Im pretty sure some of the more recent traffic that doesn't quite fit the mold is due to people from overseas finding the forum via the rampant google bots...... Metla (12)
2005-01-20 02:43:00 I suspect you are right.

This forum is not set to show "local time" on the profile of a poster, that usually gives a clue.

2005-01-20 10:24:00 someone correct me if im wrong, but I can't see a P4 3Ghz running off a 115Watt PSU (If indeed that is what is in question) Agent_24 (57)
2005-01-20 10:42:00 Yes you are wrong, you are confusing watts with voltage, just as the original poster has. It is set to 115 volts, which probably means he is in the US, and the power in watts is currently unknown. Watts (power) = Volts x Amps

2005-01-20 21:18:00 no no, I know that the voltage was probably 115v, I was asking if a PSU of 115 watts would be enough to power a P4 3Ghz, whether it be here or in the US. Agent_24 (57)
