315928 2005-01-19 23:06:00 Not that Windows flashes can't be done, it's never the safest option.

Don't Gigabyte board have dual bioses, shouldn't you be able to switch to the other one?

Yup thats what it means, if it didnt flash properly and unless this motherboard uses 2 BIOS'es, its stuffed.

And if u cant get into the BIOS, its stuffed.

And yup, you'll have to replace the motherboard and windows. And dont flash in Windows. Use DOS on a bootable floppy for BIOS updates.

You can do BIOS updates in Windows. With ASUS motherboards, BUT its better if u do it in DOS. In case it freezes while updating.

BIOS Recovery Feature

For AMI BIOS

1. Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a floppy disk. e.g. Rename A569MS23.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM
2. Insert this floppy disk in the floppy drive. Turn On the system and press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. It will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the BIOS from the A drive.
3. When 4 beeps are heard you may remove the floppy disk and restart the computer.

For Award BIOS

1. Make a bootable floopy disk
2. Copy the Award flash utility & BIOS file to the said floppy disk
3. Create an autoexec.bat with "Award_Flash_Utility BiosFilename" in the content (e.g. awdfl823K w6378vms.130)
Sample on how to create an autoexec:
a. On Windows, open the notepad
b. On the notepad, write "awdfl823K w6378vms.130" (without the " ")
c. Save the file as autoexec.bat
4. Boot up system with the said floppy (it will take less than 2 minutes before screen comes out)
5. Re-flash the BIOS & reboot.

315932 2005-01-20 00:07:00 Well if you are buying a new motherboard you might as well have a go at hot swapping. Google for a guide if you feel brave enough. And have access to a similar motherboard and a very nice/very dumb/rich/lucky owner. george12 (7)

OR, have a read about BIOS Bootblock, just possibly it may work for you, maybe!

In the days of ISA video cards it was easier, at least you could see something on the screen, and keyboard strokes:

315934 2005-01-20 00:14:00 you have your self a paper weight .

however it is still possible to save your motherboard buy a new bios chip, im not sure if you can buy them in nz but you can get them from the states, try that . At least it is cheaper than a new mobo . I think fergie had the same problem as you and he got a new bios chip and all was well . orginal thread here ( . pcworld . co . nz/showthread . php?t=52007&page=5&pp=10&highlight=bios" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz)
