| 315833 | 2005-01-19 12:40:00 | I run win98se. While everything is working the CD drive (normally d:) has gone missing from win98. It does not appear in the device manager. It can be seen by the bios and if I boot off a Win98SE Startup floppy disk (with CD support enabled) it works and I can access the CD drive under DOS. It shouldn't need drivers in autoexec.bat/config.sys, and before the problem there weren't any. So it appears it is a Win98 issue. Any idea how to get it back without a complete install. I have run thelatest Norton virus definition and Spybot - but nothing turns up. Thanks Chris |

| 315834 | 2005-01-19 16:14:00 | I don't know if this will help as I use XP, but I had the same thing happen in the last few days, and it was due to unistalling the "Intel application accelarator" program that is mean't to increase drive performance. I found after uninstalling the program that both my CD and DVD drive were missing only in windows (showed up fine in the Bios and boot process), as soon as I reinstalled the Intel program they returned. I hope this help's Dave |
