315980 2005-01-20 22:23:00 I'm pretty sure that it isn't a mouse problem - more like a bug in the copy of XP.
Mine is also a copy taken from the original install - the original worked good as gold - but the copy has all sorts of flaws

315981 2005-01-20 23:38:00 Dead copy and paste is a sign of virus activity, can't remember which one though. No necessarilly the cause of your issue(s) but worth checking. Murray P (44)
315982 2005-01-20 23:52:00 You could be right there Murray. Here's 1 such trojan that does

securityresponse.symantec.com

It disables paste.

315983 2005-01-21 00:48:00 Polo, is that all of the error, details and all?

For more info: Go to Cntrol Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer, scroll through the events (System and Application) to around the time the problem happened, right click the event and choose Properties, use the arrows to scroll . Once you've found something interesting not down the Application, Service or system file and the event ID number .

Post the info back here, there may be more than one relevant event .

315984 2005-01-21 03:06:00 You might also have this.

securityresponse.symantec.com

If the right mouse button doesnt work at all. This is a MSN Messenger worm.

315985 2005-01-21 03:31:00 What about trying this:

Start - Run - regedit - Click OK

Find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

With it hilighted go to File - Export and save a backup of the ContextMenuHandlers registry key.

Once you've done that click the + next to the ContextMenuHandlers and have a look at what's listed. There will be long string of numbers & letters first and when you select it it will say "Start Menu Pin' on the right. Leave this one alone!
Delete one of the other keys listed then close regedit and try right-clicking.
If it still does the same thing run the backup registry file you made to put the deleted key back.
Then run regedit again and delete the next one and so on until, hopefully, you find the one causing the problem.

315986 2005-01-26 02:52:00 Hey Speedee - you could be on to something - I had to do a XP uninstall and re-install over the weekend - now MSN is having problems - and if you go to copy and paste all is well until you hit paste - then everything closes and the pc returns to the desktop - and after a little pause (about 30 secs) - everything that was running pops back up on the taskbar - except for any Explorer programs - these will have gone beddy by's - will give those links a run and see how it goes.
Thanks for the help - it might fix Polo's problems as well
