316879 2005-01-22 04:05:00 I have had my system (Windows ME) completely rebuilt over Christmas and am now getting a time out error with my printer (HP930C). What does this indicate and how can I fix it?
I run Windows 2000 Professional programmes, 30GB Hard Drive, 256MB RAM on a HP8880 computer.

You might want to check the cables are seated correctly and maybe try another cable. If you need to reload any drivers then you can find them for the 930c for ME here (h10025.www1.hp.com) or for Win2K here (h10025.www1.hp.com) . Also, check the hardware devices do not show any problems for the USB and/or parallel ports under the Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager.

316882 2005-01-23 02:07:00 Modern printers have to be able to talk back to the computer. The BIOS might have a default setting which doesn't allow this.

During the boot up, use the "Del", F1, or whatever key gets you into the BIOS setup.

Look for a page:"Peripherals", "Serial/Parallel ports" ...or something like that. Or just step through each in turn looking for the Parallel port entry. It should be ECP or EPP for a modern printer. You might have an ECP/EPP setting which covers both.;)

"Esc" gets you out of each page. "Save and Exit",if you have to change the setting.
