| 317214 | 2005-01-23 06:09:00 | Hi! I am going to buy my hardware for my new PC tomorrow hopefully. I dont really know too much about the good brands of hardware at the moment, as I have not been keeping up with everything :confused: My friend has given me a list of components; I will post them after this. I have about $2500 to spend on it. What would be a good system? The main purpose for it will be gaming and homework. Thanks Mike |

| 317219 | 2005-01-23 06:45:00 | do you really need a FDD? it may save 20 bucks :p. What type of internet connection do you have because you may not need a 56k modem and this will save a pci slot aswell. maybe a stupid question, but i dont know the answer, can a dvd writer also write cdr's? |

Yea, I think I will keep the FDD, if the computer decides that it will not work they can be useful sometimes. I am on a 56k internet connection. And I have no idea about your last question. I think that they can, if you have one that does both.. |

| 317221 | 2005-01-23 07:05:00 | Oh, It has a separate drive for that anyway. there is a DVD burner and CD burner :D | Tribomb (5547) | ||

My conclusion is that a DVD is just an extended version of a CD. So a DVD Writer can write anything up to 4.7Gb (or 8.4 if it's a Dual Layer). The capacity of a CD is 700Mb. Therefore, yes it can. :thumbs: |

Ditch the CD-RW and save yourself $40+ Also for $2500 I think that is a bit of a rip off. I'd be looking at approximately $2000 (or slightly more depending) incl. GST for that system. |
