317154 2005-01-23 03:37:00 I'm curious why so much junk is left behind in the registry and sometimes elsewhere, after an app is removed using Add/Remove in XP.

- are the app coders lazy and/or incompetent?
- is this a deliberate ploy?
- maybe some other reason?

When I do a conventional uninstall, then follow this using an uninstaller such as Ashampoo, I see heaps of registry junk.

Interested to know what you think?

Thanks ~ John

317155 2005-01-23 06:48:00 Could be deliberate or most likely it's your personalised settings used, Any alterations made is not shown in their install logs and it's usually the install log that helps remove the shown installed files.

You might need to run a registry cleaner, but this will not clean everything up. Best programs are installer monitors, that track all installation files and registry locations and helps the uninstaller remove all files without leaving junk around.

Other than that, it's not wise to mess around the registry without a complete backup.
