| 317188 | 2005-01-23 03:24:00 | There's quite a big thread in the Chat forum that I think Metla started (?) about free web hosts and alternatives to Orcon etc. Here (www.pressf1.co.nz). Mike. |

I think if you ring them up on their tollfree number then they should be able to set an account over the phone for you. But do have a look at Metla's thread as it did have some good ones as well. |

| 317190 | 2005-01-23 06:38:00 | Hey Poppa John, The one directory everyone should look at for Free, No-Ads hosting, etc then look here at http://www.free-webhosts.com/ Be sure to read reviews about what has been said etc, you could join as many free hosts as you like and just settle on the one you find the best, yourself. You can get some very professional packages at no costs, there maybe catches, but all free offering sites do have them. I'm associated with http://astahost.com/ which it's main catch is you've got to be active in their forums providing useful good posts. You'll need 50 posts to get 150MB webspace, 2GB Bandwidth, PHP, CGI/Perl, SSH, Cpanel, FTP, etc etc. Only 10 posts needed for the starter package which is 10-20MB webspace, 500MB Bandwidth, and all the same features. They can give you a subdomain or you can use your own domain, you can also get a free domain from http://uni.cc which you can use there as well. Kame |

| 317194 | 2005-01-23 07:45:00 | No it's not necessary to have a domain name. You can register one for $35ish+ for a year in NZ. The benefits of a domain name is that you can choose whatever name you want, and it'll be easy to remember. When you sign up for webspace with a free host, your site might be hosted on www.nz.freehost.com If you had a domain name www.yoursite.co.nz then you could redirect this to http: so that when people just type http://www.yoursite.co.nz, they will get to your site as if they typed it all out. Hope I've explained it properly |
