I entered Metla into the blank space so my page address is http://metla.atspace.com. |

Yep have done all that, only with my choice of name . 1) Do I need to "Add a Domain Name"? 2) How do I upload a web site, what did you do/use? This is the beginning of another steep learning curve for me . I heard that, watch your language!!! PJ  |

| 317200 | 2005-01-24 05:49:00 | Nope,no need to add a domain name unless you really want to have a certain address for your site, such as www.poppajohn.com and that would cost about $30 to $50 a year. The restrictions placed on this service means you can't host specific files, they need to be embedded in a webpage in order for people to access them,so you cant just upload a bunch of photo's (as an example) you have to make a webpage that displays the files. So your first job after creating your account and choosing a name for it is to make a webpage, and name it index.htm so that it is displayed by default. I use MS Frontpage because im crap at html, have no desire to learn it,and it creates pages that suit my purposes perfectly. To upload files I use a FTP client, But the control panel they provide has a file browser that you can use to upload files. |

| 317202 | 2005-01-24 06:11:00 | Fraid i can't make it over your way tonight PJ, But i will try and simplify my last post. Forget about a domain now for now. Your next step is to create a web page to upload, this can be coded by hand or you can use a program to do it. I use Frontpage which is part of MS Office.(well,it is depending on the package) if you have frontpage i suggest you give it a go. a site such as... www.som.yale.edu Gives the basics to building a very simple web page via notepad., |

| 317204 | 2005-01-24 10:28:00 | Lots of others will tell you this is a bad idea, but if you dont have a proper web authoring program both MS Word and MS Publisher will make websites for you as long as you save as a web page from the file menu. You then need a ftp program, there are plenty of free ones out there or just type the ftp address your host gave you into the address bar of My Computer, you will be promted for a password etc. and you can then copy your files that way. Tips: the start page will have to be called index.htm. All the images that you put into the document you create with Word or Publisher will be saved in a folder called images, you need to copy the whole folder over and not just the images. Anyway plenty to get you started, and more help back here if needed. |
