318005 2005-01-25 20:00:00 When trying to delete a programme, I get the error message: "16 bit Windows Subsystem. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." Then there are two buttons, labelled "Close" and "Ignore". Whichever is clicked, the thing closes and nothing happens. I am unable to delete the programme.

Trying to install a new programme of card games, I get the same message, and the programme will not load.

Any clues as to the problem? I have noticed this happen on other computers as well just lately.

318007 2005-01-25 20:11:00 I have seen this problem occur when the PC has been infected with a virus and then cleaned out.
It seems the anitvirus software either corrupts the autoexec.nt file or deletes it totally.
What you need to do is open Search and search all files and folders including system and hidden folders for the file called autoexec.nt.
It should find at least one copy of it in the C:\windir\repair folder (where windir is the name of the folder that your windows is installed to).
It may also find one in the system32 folder.
Delete the one in the system32 folder if there is one and then copy the one from the repair folder to the system32 folder.
That should fix your problem.

Also does this program you're trying to delete appear in Add/remove programs?? Or are you trying to delete it's folder?? Without using Add/remove programs, if its there?

318009 2005-01-25 20:16:00 Thank you for the suggestions. I will check them out. Yes, the programme does appear in the Add/Remove list, and it is from there that I cannot delete it. bwalton (6996)
