317800 2005-01-25 06:20:00 Could anybody help please, after my PC has been idle for a while, (about 1 hour.) It gives a sound off just like a house security alarm, could this be that the CPU is overheating? Is there a way of checking the temp?
I have an AMD2800 with 1gig of DDR Ram, 9800 vid card with 512 Ram.
If it is heat, why should it happen on idle and not when being used?
Any help appreciated

317801 2005-01-25 06:38:00 Is the computer stable otherwise? Your motherboard may have software for monitoring the temperatues, but a quick way is to reboot the machine and get into the BIOS and see what it reports the temperature as. To get into the BIOS, just starting tapping the DEL key (normally DEL) as soon as it starts up. Have a look under Hardware Health etc or similar. Jen (38)

317803 2005-01-25 07:38:00 This could also happen, if your mobo supports case intrusion or something.

Might even be a setting in the BIOS (on some mobos for it).

Its a setting/jumper on the mobo, if moved from its original position, when u go to open the case, it'll sound an alarm.

317805 2005-01-25 08:42:00 Ideally it could be lower but, 50C isn't too hot. Change the setting at which the alert is triggered to 65-70C. Murray P (44)

I think that means the Alarm is activated at 50degress celcius, which would then most probably mean it's an alarm sound. 50deg is not that bad, especially if its an AMD.
