| 317585 | 2005-01-24 21:39:00 | Assuming this is Windows XP: This is a registry hack. As usual I take no responsibility for any damage, loss of eyesight, bowel irritation or hallucinations involved in using the following: Open Regedit (Start --> Run --> regedit --> ok) Navigate to HKey_Local_Machine --> System --> CurrentControlSet --> Services --> Rasman --> PPP --> EAP Left click on EAP there should be 4 keys > 13,4,25,and 26 Delete the keys 25 and 26 Reboot the PC Try to setup a new connection - the problem should now be fixed If those 4 keys are not visible, check the modem is properly configured and dialling rules are set up correctly in control panel. If the above does not work below are some other options to try however it has been reported that in most cases the only real way to fix this problem is to reinstall service pack 1. Edit: This is usually as a result of a botched SP install, a system restore, or a reinstall over the top. Edit 2: There is another listed fix for this, but I've used it stacks of times and never seen it work, where as the above is usually successful: support.microsoft.com |

I have tried the above regedit but it didn't help. also tried the other way of creating an internet connection as per xtra instructions but would not accept any name for the connection so couldnt complete. would reinstalling servicepack 1 help ?can you separately reinstall service pack 1 somehow off the operating system reinstallation cd without having to download it (ie. what would the file be called?) |
