317872 2005-01-25 22:46:00 Of course we must not overlook the possibility Tribomb is Lieing. Perhaps he's changed his mind. Or perhaps..whatever.
I will be very interested to hear what the shop has to say.

There are two sides to every story and so far we've only heard one.

But if tribomb is telling the truth, then my previous advice applies.

Fair enough and all that needed to be said

317874 2005-01-26 01:49:00 Thanks the highlander :D
No, I’m not lying
Anyway. I got the Monitor changed to the 19 inch that I wanted. They don’t stock the motherboard that I wanted. He said that they could give me the Gigabyte K8NS-929 or an Asus. He said that they will exchange the 754 pin motherboard and CPU for a new 929 pin CPU and that I can get the motherboard there as Asus or the K8NS-929 or try and get the original one I wanted form somewhere else. Anyone got any views on the motherboards? He said that Asus is the number one motherboard manufacture.

The seem fine about it

317875 2005-01-26 02:08:00 Good for you. Did they give you an explanation for the muck up?
Gigabyte or Asus. Not much to choose between them. I'm useing Asus at present. But my last board was Gigabyte. Both are good.
By the way I didn't accuse you of lieing. I just raised the possibility. After all I don't know you and the whole deal sounded a bit screwy. Why didn't you look at what they were giving you before you left the shop??

317876 2005-01-26 02:21:00 It was all in a box, although it was on the recepit. I just didnt notice untill I got home and had opend the big box with all the parts in it. It was then that I saw it, and then I saw the monitor had gone from Philips 19 inch, to ViewSonic 19 inch, then to Viewsonic 17 inch. I am not sure what happend. When I go back in tomorow, hopefully, I will ask them what happend. Tribomb (5547)
317877 2005-01-26 02:42:00 Billy T, Can you think of one logical way they could have made a mistake?

Jack

Do not confuse advice with opinion .

I made no comment on the why's and wherefore's because only Tribomb could know the answers to those questions .

All I did was clarify the legal status of his situation so that he didn't go in with all guns blazing demanding a refund without first giving them the opportunity to put things right .

Other remedies flow from there .

Cheers

I note from his latest post that they are indeed trying to put things right .

317878 2005-01-26 08:59:00 With the monior being wrong as well, which we were unaware of before, that's too much of a ballsup to be credible IMO. If it was truly, realy, actually, *cough* a genuine mistake I would have lost confidence in the ability of these people by now. If it wasn't genuine, then I would not deal with them full stop, dishonesty should never be rewarded, which was what our advice on this matter was based on and to prevent further damage.

We can only take these things on face value and give appropriate advice from there, which I believe Tribomb has got in spades. Of course, if there are obvious inconsistencies, then people must be a little more circumspect with their advice. And, of course, people can do what they like with the advice.

Tribomb, nothing wrong with Asus boards at all, they're a very good brand that should do you well, as a general rule.

317879 2005-01-26 11:19:00 Yes, I have lost confidence. If I do go back I will cheek and the re-cheek everything before I walk out the door, I should have been more weary of them. But I think it will be hard to get a refund still. They have fixed the mistakes now, nearly, so I will get the Motherboard somewhere else, probably Dragon (but not the morehouse branch)
I will ask them if I go in today what they say happened and tell you all, they may have a reasonable reason for the mistake...

Thanks for all your help! I still havnt started building, so i might need more :horrified

I agree with that 100%. NEVER let a retailer/supplier get away with trying to pull a fast one on you. In my experience quite a few will try it with young, inexperienced people who do not have the confidence to stand up for their rights. Show them that you are not a push-over, Tribomb.
