Sorry yes a USB (must have been thinking of ASB) it plugs into a green adapter with a round end and then becomes a PS2 connector hence the confusion. Why it is like that, pass.

The mouse has a UBS connector on the end of the wire but it is plugged into a PS2 adapter, Why? Pass.

318040 2005-01-26 00:50:00 I thought USB was supposed to be better but it worked fine witrh the adapter before I installed XP. I would get another mouse and give this one to the cat but it don't make sense to me.

Regarding your problem, upgrading from Win 98 may not have been the best idea so if you can backup your data and you have the installation files to programs it may be better to reformat your hard drive and install Windows XP and the Service Packs from fresh. Your computer sounds fairly new and ought to work well with a USB mouse plugged straight into a USB port.
