317989 2005-01-25 19:36:00 Ok, to be sure, I really don't understand computers. This is the problem as I see it:
when using the internet, I occasionally receive the message: the operation timed out…
The computer centre of my university where I work tells me that there is no problem with the network. Furthermore, I am not able to open a Pdf document without the internet crashing. I believe the problem has to do something with the combination of downloading servicepack 2, acrobat 6.0, and the internet… or whatever. While working on a phd the last thing someone who does not understand computers needs is this kind of crap… Any ideas?

317990 2005-01-25 19:42:00 I doubt the prob is SP2 for XP. I have it and have used Acrobat 6, and 7, it has never crashed.

I would either update Acrobat 6 thru the program, (I think it went to 6.03) before going to V7), or get Acrobat 7. Or reinstall 6 or 7.

It might also be something that runs on your PC in the background. Have those PC's got something like Ad-aware or Spybot installed, to check for things like spyware??

317991 2005-01-25 19:56:00 Thanks,

not that the problem is already solved, but Ok. I am looking for spyware stuff now. I now I had them a time ago, but I believe I deleted them as I somehow knew they were causing troubles. I am also updating the acrobat reader thing. W'll see. Thanks anaway...
