318256 2005-01-26 07:11:00 I've recently installed a webserver (Apache 2.0.52) mainly for development purposes, but was wondering how I would make it 'public'. While on dial up, you could just use the IP as an address, but now on adsl, I'm not sure how. It's on port 80, and when trying the IP, it just brings up the modem cpanel. 127.0.0.1 obviously works for me (and only me). sal (67)
318257 2005-01-26 07:22:00 Pretty straightforward really. On your ADSL router, setup port forwarding port 80 through to the private IP of the box running apache.

Point the A record for your domain/whatever at the IP of your ADSL connection (or address the IP directly).

Get someone to test it externally. It should work, but it often doesn't work from internal (mine never did with my M1122) I always get the Router Interface if I address my public IP.

318258 2005-01-26 07:51:00 To test it as it would be to an externel viewer, set your browser to use a proxy, such as proxy.xtra.co.nz - it will work as if you were outside.

You can also use www.megaproxy.com.

318259 2005-01-26 09:18:00 Had a quick look on google about port forwarding for my modem (D-Link DSL- 302G), not entirely sure what I'm doing from this window (tinypic.com) though. Help? sal (67)

318261 2005-01-27 04:51:00 I had another crack at it following portforward.com's guide, but when I submit, it always returns a 501 Method Not Implemented page, without setting anything. Does 10.1.1.3 sound like a likely local address? sal (67)

The router returns that error message?

And 10.1.1.3 does sound local, you should know what the IP of the server is. Ideally it should be set staticallly.

The same page I enter the details into, after I submit, the 501 appears.

318264 2005-01-27 06:46:00 Weird... not sure on that one - it shouldn't do that.

Maybe give D-Link a call on 0800 900 900 - I believe their support is good, maybe it's a known issue.

318265 2005-01-27 06:56:00 After an extensive google session (google:D-Link DSL- 302G "501 error") I found that it was the fault of the browser I was using (Firefox), apparently only IE and Opera make it work. Pretty obscure :/ sal (67)
