319309 2005-01-30 02:49:00 I am building a new PC . I have installed the motherboard and the Graphics card, RAM . . . etc . I am now trying to do the HDD, Floppy and CDROM . I have alot of IDE cables . Two for the motherbard, one for CD ROM, and then one for floppy, that all came with the motherbard . Then I have the IDE cable that i got with the package . Also the one that comes with the CD ROM Drive . And, they all have three plugs, Master, Slave and the one for the motherboard .

(CD ROM)
I have pluged the master into the CDROM drive (left the Slave alone) and I dont know what one of the two plugs, on the motherbaord, that I should put it into . Prmary or seconadry .

(HDD)
Do I do the same for the HDD, put the master cable into the HDD, then leave the slave, then put the motherboard one into the plug on the motherbard? Can you understand?

319310 2005-01-30 02:54:00 Someone said that I only need one IDE cable. I can put Master into the HDD, and then slave into the CD ROM, then into the motherboard? Is that right? And then put it in the primary plug on the motherbard?? Tribomb (5547)
319311 2005-01-30 02:57:00 Hard drives should be plugged into the primary ide connection on the motherboard as master . If more than one hard drive the other as slave .

Remember to put the jumpers on CD's and hard drives to master or slave too .

And configure the IDE primary / secondary devices in BIOS to master or slave as well .

CD's into IDE secondary on the motherboard, as master and slave (if u have 2 cds or 1 cd / dvd) .

Make sure the red line on the ide cables, go to pin 1 on the motherboard, and if any of the ide cables are BLUE at one end, plug the BLUE end into the ide primary or secondary connections on the motherboard . NOT to the connection on the hdd or cd / dvd end .

DON'T put cd's or dvds on the same IDE connection as a hard drive . It may cause problems . Put hdd's on the same connection (primary master /slave), and cd and dvd's on the secondary ide connection (as master and slave) .

Ok, just make sure I understand correctly . (Also, I have one HDD and one CD/DVD rom) Use separate IDE cables, one for CD ROM, and one for HDD . Both of which, CD ROM, and HDD, are set to master . HDD is plugged into primary and CD ROM into secondary .

Thats right. If u only have 1 cd put it as secondary master, and if u have 1 hdd primary master.

If u have 2 hdd's (put them on primary master and slave) and a cd and a separate dvd (put these on secondary master and slave).
