| 319096 | 2005-01-29 03:06:00 | Good afternoon I am using Office XP Pro. The machine is networked to another machine using the same programme. When using MS Word I am unable to save my files. I keep getting "Save as (not responding)". Can you provide me with a solution or point me in the right direction as to where the information to solve this problem may be found. Incidentally when I try to change the default location I get the same message. The machine when you try to save or change directory freezes and then the error message comes up. Your earliest response would be appreciated. I have been all over the internet and struck others who have the same problem but have not yet found a solution. Regards Thomas Cranney |

| 319097 | 2005-01-29 03:22:00 | Hi What have you tried so far to fix this? Does uninstalling and then reinstalling Office make a difference? You are only saving the document locally on your machine and not across the network? Have you tried searching for normal.dot (Word default template), and then deleting it? (You may need to select to search hiddens files/folders first). Then reboot the machine and let Word make a new normal.dot file. |

| 319099 | 2005-01-30 02:37:00 | Guys here is the solution to the problem I was having. Might be of value to someone out there. Note the site that it came from. Thanks to Gary and the guys that responded to me and F1 ofcourse. Regards Thomas __________________________________________________ _______________ Make sure your Word and Outlook programs are closed before doing any of the below. You probably just need to replace the normal.dot template. This word file gets corrupt a lot of times and causes all kinds of strange things to happen. When you find the file just rename the file to oldnormal.dot. After doing that just open Word and when it looks and can't find normal.dot the program will create a new one. Mine is located at the following path C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates but I am on XP pro and logged on as Administrator. Yours may be in a different place. If you have problems finding it Click on Start Search and then type in normal.dot and do a search under files and folders. After search finds the file just right click on the file and select rename. Rename the file to Oldnormal.dot. When you reopen the Word program Word will recreate a new normal.dot file. | 319100 | 2005-01-30 03:03:00 | Yeah, a corrupt normal.dot can cause all sorts of weird behaviour from Word as I mentioned in my previous post. Glad to see you have it sorted now. :) PS* I have removed your email address out of your post above to prevent it being harvested by the spambots which search out the internet for posted email addresses like that, which are then onsold to spammers. |
