318967 2005-01-28 21:00:00 I am running AVG anti virus and my OS is WinXP(prof). I am continually being told on screen to check updates. When I do - the screen for updates opens but does absolutely nothing for 28 seconds then tells me the connection has been lost. The connection hasn't been lost - as I have had this problem for well over a week I can no longer presume some fault with the AVG web site. It must be my end - any help/suggestions etc welcomed.

PS wish PCWorld would sort out their problem with missing email notifications -I really miss that action.

318968 2005-01-28 21:07:00 Have you tried to manually download one of the updates?

PS wish PCWorld would sort out their problem with missing email notifications -I really miss that action. You need to subscribe to threads in order to received notifications. Go here forums.pcworld.co.nz and change Default Thread Subscription Mode to "instant email notification".

318969 2005-01-28 21:08:00 There's already a post on this, have a look down the page or maybe gone over to page two already.

The email thing sounds like the issue that's come up lots too. Have a look in User Cotrol Panel "User CP" and check for email notifications. It used to be defaulted to on, now it's defaulted to off.

318970 2005-01-28 21:52:00 I have had the same problem. Just got the latest update a few minutes ago. It looks like a problem at the AVG end and hopefully they have fixed it. IanS (924)
318971 2005-01-28 23:20:00 Yeh, ive experienced this problem to. What you need to do is clean out your mouse ball. See what happens is dust and grit builds up in it stopping the ball, meening the gigabytes do not roll into the PC properly. This will cause your modem to hang up randomly. This should fix the problem. MichaelStanding (7030)
