319069 2005-01-30 06:36:00 Don't run/use two anti-virus products at the same time. Your likely to get confilicts and false positives. Do scans in safe mod with ME's system restore disabled.

This dialer has got to be loading from somewhere, have you done a search for it? Use something other than IE for the moment, if your not already doing so.

319070 2005-01-30 06:48:00 I do not have a firewall installed

to state the bleeding obvious, install a firewall (eg zonealarm) and it should give idea on what file is activating the dailup and you should be able to block it so it dosn't cost you to much money in 0900 calls.

319071 2005-01-31 02:11:00 OK, ran the AVG 7 program and again nothing, nada...... Installed Zone alarm and hey presto, I find there's a dozen programs trying to connect to the internet. Internet Accelerator being one, I have no clue what this is.......and a shch.exe, again I have no clue what htis is...

Any ideas on the above.

Also, can anyone show me how to get the sound back from my modem when dialling out. through dial-up networking, the speakers on, the volume is high and I can hear it when using ATDT in hyperterminal.....

319072 2005-01-31 02:39:00 startup.iamnotageek.com - shch.exe is an adult dialer

Internet Accelerator is from memory a SpyWare application.

Are you sure you have the latest version of SpyBot (1.3) check this by going Help -> About in SpyBot.

Also get AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com

And if you have W2K or XP get the MS AntiSpyware app:
www.microsoft.com

Check in Add/Remove programs: Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs (or similar) and see if you can remove some from there.

Maybe get HijackThis and post a log:

319073 2005-01-31 02:39:00 Learn to google for answers as well as ask questions :-)
shch.exe 1st google result tells you that it is an "Adult Content Dialler", your computer may need scrubbing out with hot soapy water.

When you say speaker is on etc do you mean the modem speaker? Dialler programs often mute the modem so you don't realise what's happening. Check for any extra setting commands in the dialup connections.

319074 2005-02-01 04:24:00 OK,
Phantom dial up cleared. It was the shch.exe dialler. Thanx to all who responded with positive actions.

BUT I still can't get to hear my modem when dialling out using dial-up networking. I have 2 different connections set up to 2 different ISP's, no sound from the modem on both of them.

Again, if I use the hayes command ATDT in hyperterminal I can hear the dial tone pick up and the digits being dialled out......

Any ideas...........

319075 2005-02-01 05:37:00 Does ME generate a modem log file for the current connection? You may be able to see what commands are sent to the modem and the order. Look for the command to silence the modem. The porn dialler may have put that in the default string. What modem? PaulD (232)
319076 2005-02-01 06:27:00 is the modem sound level set to max ??

otherwise this is often a sign of an incorrect modem driver being used.

319077 2005-02-01 08:20:00 Not sure about the log for Win Me, where would I look? the modem is an itm internal 56k fax modem V.92
yep the sound is set to max.
I looked at the devise manager and it shows the modem working OK, tried updating the driver but it gave the one I was using originally....

319078 2005-02-01 08:27:00 Have a look for any extra settings that may have been added.
Start/Settings/Dialup networking
Right click ISP connection and go to Properties
Click on Configure at the bottom
Click Connections and then Advanced
Delete anything in the Extra Settings box.
