2005-01-29 23:10:00 | Hi Peeps an Peepettes. When my computer beeps and groans and does all those "Oh please get past those noises!" things at start up, there are two occasions when a spalsh screen is displayed 'advertising' the shop I bought it from. Is there any way of getting rid of them, or perhaps making my own? Or is the only way... :badpc: Many regards, The Cell.

2005-01-29 23:36:00 | its just like those branded pc's, id say its a branded bios, in other words i doubt you could change it. you may be able to flash it with out a branded bios version but thats also highly unlikey because most of those branded pc makers make their own version of motherboard | Prescott (11) | |

2005-01-30 00:27:00 | I remember with my Gigabyte board you could changed the BIOS to whatever you wanted, it was a program on the Motherboard drivers CD. | E|im (87) | |
2005-01-30 01:27:00 | I suspect Jack is correct. HP, DEC, Compaq all have done this in the past, and they have been "turnable off" in the BIOS. It's relatively easy and cheap to include in a BIOS. It's hardly a custom BIOS ... it's just a picture file to be included, rather than changed code which would need extensive (=expensive) testing. | Graham L (2) | |
2005-01-30 06:11:00 | Going by his other thread he has a win98 machine, and while not as widespread as vegimite toast it wasn't unheard of for some computer stores to replace the Windows splash screen, This is OS related and not bios. its simple enough to replace it, though you won't getr the default back, its been over-written. futhermore,if your comp has been running for the last 6 years on its original install of Windows then it would benifit from a format and reload, which will get rid of the splashscreen anyhow. Thats just my guess anyhow, Seeing as you mentioned it is the stores fluff that is displayed. If its manufacturer then it will be bios spash screen.

2005-01-30 21:46:00 | Right there! To answer a few questions and perhaps start some more threads........ tweak'e Will try that! Prescott Hmmm! Flashing the BIOS has always been a flash point (sorry) but will do some more reasearch on it. johnboy I haven't had a chance to view those sites yet as I'm cyber cafeing it at the moment, so am trying to get in and out quickly (and my typing this takes a few hours!! :@@: ) Poppa John I could if they existed any more!! Bugger (can I say that??) JJJJJ Yes, it does seem to be in the BIOS, so will have a peek. E|im Umm! 'fraid I have no banananas. Sorry no mobo CDs (floppys etc.) Graham L Again, back to the BIOS. Think I'll be haveing me a word with that darn thing! Metla You'll like this (not a lot, but) I have a Windows XP machine! It has a fairly new (two year old) HDD in that has been formatted and reloaded with XP again. I have me a feeling that it's in the BIOS. When I get home that bloody 'Del' button's going to be for it!! (That's my BIOS button!) Many regards, The Cell. :D
