| 319720 | 2005-01-31 07:46:00 | Ive got Linux on a PC. What I wanna do is tar up the C: Drive and put the tar files onto DVD. Easy. Next, I want to reformat it FAT32 (Ive got a bootable Win98 "floppy" on CD which will do just this). Once that partition is reformated as FAT32 I want to untar the WinXP install back onto that drive. Would it work or no? Cheers Chill. |

| 319723 | 2005-01-31 07:57:00 | The install itself will be just fine. The bootloader however, will be trashed as has been said. You just need to boot of a Windows XP CD and go into Recovery Console. Run the command "fixmbr", and you should be fine :) |

| 319725 | 2005-01-31 08:32:00 | I'd have thought all your boot and OS loading files will have problems, not just boot.ini, but ntldr, NTDETECT.com and a couple of others that float around your C: and windows directories. How would the i386 files be, surely some of those are specific to an NTFS system? What about functions that rely on NTFS and their settings? Have you read the EULA Chill, is this your one allowed copy for backup purposes? ;) |
