319401 2005-01-30 09:07:00 As you can obviously see from the title of this post, my computer restarts instead of hibernating - It has hibernated fine for as long as I remember, and I dont use that feature often so I dont know how much I have changed since last I used hibernation.

basically I press shift, click "hibernate", computer logs off and says "preparing to hibernate" then I get the black screen and purple/blue progressbar saying "hibernating".

Then at the point where the computer would normally switch off it restarts.

Any ideas

319402 2005-01-30 10:04:00 That means it is encountering a serious error.

In all of my 14 PC's over the years, none would satisfactorily hibernate or use Standby, or run reliably after doing so.

Some PC makers have actually advised against using it.

It works better with laptop hardware (for which it was apparently designed, or vice versa), but still less than perfect in my experience.

A driver update or Windows update is all it takes to become incompatable

319403 2005-01-30 22:40:00 Strange as ive always usually had standby/hibernation work fine on most of my PCs.

I suspect the new Geforce 6 and nvidia drivers are probably behind it, but other things were modified after that before hibernation was tried yesterday so yea, it could be anything.

Hibernation is very useful for me sometimes so I shall try to get it working again.

319404 2005-01-30 23:01:00 Uninstall the drivers u have now and delete its folder. Then get the latest version of the drivers off the site. Either the signed ones or the beta ones.

What version of the drivers are installed now??

319405 2005-01-30 23:52:00 That's what I did when I upgraded the video card. Agent_24 (57)
319406 2005-01-31 00:16:00 With what? The ones off windowsupdate or the offical ones off the nvidia site 66.93 or the 67.66 beta drivers. Hopefully the nvidia sites ones. Speedy Gonzales (78)
319407 2005-01-31 00:27:00 yep latest ones straight from nvidia.com Agent_24 (57)
319408 2005-01-31 01:52:00 Just for the record I have fixed the problem by disabling the "wake on PME" option in the BIOS.

(Could be linked to the 2nd NIC I installed for my DSL modem, a rather old compex 2000A)

319409 2005-01-31 01:56:00 Sure that was not a "wake on PMS" option?

That one is a real problem ...

319410 2005-01-31 02:04:00 In manual and bios it is referred to as PME (Power management event), but does not seem to be related to any specific device - I supose any device that has a wakeup feature can use PME?? Agent_24 (57)
