319344 2005-01-30 05:16:00 The other day I installed a network card in my Hp 6616 running windows 98SE, dial up. everything was fine with my net connection initially. Some where along the line i did something that broke it. I can connect fine but it just dosent work, cant send or receive any data I surpose
I'll list everything i remember doing but it'll be kinda vague, if someone has a idea I may be able to ellaborate on that particular move.

Installed network card
installed drivers
net connection still working
following some instructions if found on the net changed some tcp/ip settings (can provide more details shortly)
Changed workgroup
Mapped network drive of computer running windows xp pro, accessed files fine
Net connection not working

Somewhere along the line a msg appeared saying some sockets have changed and i needed to restart, I beleive this was a msg from the virus scanner.

319346 2005-01-30 06:21:00 I followed the instructions up to step 6

I did not enable DNS because i was not sure if my isp (ihug) does this automatically.

i removed my connection and when i went to replace it a msg said that the printer sharing and internet connection were sharing the same (socket?) and windows would now fix it and restart. I hoped this would have fixed it but it hasent.

there was only one winsock32.dll file

319347 2005-01-30 06:33:00 The PC you're having probs with isnt the one you're using to reply on here is it Hersh??

If you're using the 98 se one thru another PC, the XP 1, you need to enter XP's ip address and 255.255.255.0 under subnet, under network on the 98 SE, in order to get onto the net with it.

So, both can share files (98 se can see XP and vice versa still)?

Also, if internet connection sharing is enabled on XP, it doesnt have to be enabled on 98 SE. If you're trying to get 98 to connect to the net thru XP.

If you think you have a virus or something try this trial

Download it to XP (if 98 cant get on the net). And if file sharing is working OK. Copy it from XP to 98. Then install it run it, update it. Then select the 3rd and 4th option under utilities menu.
