320458 2005-02-01 09:21:00 Does it come up straight away or does it take a while?

Try logging into webmail and seeing if you have a large message waiting.

Try disabling your firewall if you are using one.

320459 2005-02-01 09:22:00 Is Xtra your ISP? Xtra's POP3 servers only allow people connected to their network. george12 (7)
320460 2005-02-01 09:26:00 This is indicating you connection has been dropped for some reason.
Assume you have dialed in and connected OK and you have the two little computers showing by your time in the botton right corner.
Does it start to download any messages or do you get that error quite quickly.
Are you able to send mail.

I would disable any Anti-Virus programs you have running and also disable any firewalls to check if they are causing th problem.
Have you got AVG 7 installed

320461 2005-02-02 01:43:00 I get the very same error but from Paradise - and the error codes change from time to time - Paradises' only advise so far is to remove the account and re-install it - hasn't worked as yet.
Does it work properly the first time and then come up with the errer when re-checking for email?

320462 2005-02-02 02:40:00 I just googled the error number and straight away came up with these two urls which may be of some use:

support.microsoft.com

www.tiscali.co.uk

320463 2005-02-03 07:31:00 Thank you for your help...I will try these and see if that works.

Have checked at extramail but there is no big message waiting. It comes upt he first time I check the emails and each other time. Sometimes it allows the emails thru but not very often.

320464 2005-02-04 06:28:00 Checked the sites recommended to visit for answers and found that if we ran live up date twice on our nortans it seemed to correct the problem. Have been receiving emails yesterday and last night so it seems to be fixed. thanks for everyones help. :) Ruth Howes (7102)
320465 2005-02-04 11:52:00 I am having greif fixing the same error.

The computer is WinXP Home SP2 and protected by Nortons, and connects to xtra jetstream.

What I have tried so far:

* Delete the mail account and set it up again.
* Turn off all Nortons security and insured windows firewall wasent on
* Installed Thunderbird to rule out OE
* Set up all conection settings again
* Scanned with everything in the FAQ

I have done the above mulitple times in different orders.

The only thing that gets it going again is a System Restore, but only for half a week or so.

I have come to the conculision that it must be a smart little Trogen blocking port 110, but then I may be wrong.

I am going to Format and reinstall after the weekend, but I would realy like to pin this little problem down.

320466 2005-02-06 02:38:00 hi there, I am also running XP home and tried mos tof the things you have, uninstalling, turhing the firewall off, turning nortons off allto no avail...but when I ran live update twice striaght after each other, then rebooted the computer....it fixed the problem...I have had no problems since. On the symantec site it said to do this and I thought I would try it as a last resort before taking outlook mail off. I was hesitant to believe the problem was fixed but it appears to be so.

Maybe it is worth trying this to see if it makes a difference onyour computer!!!!

Thanks
Ruth
