320436 2005-02-01 07:56:00 As youve seen in my other posts im helping a friends family out with their computer prob.

I installed norton under a clean w2k install..

put in the activation key, but it cant find the norton servers...

I tried all the help things in the support pages at symantec site, google, i called the pricks but the wanted to put me on hold for ages and charge me for it.

F**k that. This is bullsh*t.. activation sux...

Does anyone know how I can fix this short of cracking the bastard. There is no option for phone activation.

Cheers

320437 2005-02-01 07:59:00 Unplug the phone / modem from the phone. Get offline.

It should after a few clicks on next, give u an option to use phone activation.

Did you really need a new thread for this.

Try disabling the firewall before you try to activate it, which would seem fairly obvious.

320439 2005-02-01 12:03:00 duh...

the only firewall is the norton firewall, and surely it must let itself out to activate itself...

Unplugging the phone line is the same as just not being on the internet... yet it still shows no option for phone activation...

320440 2005-02-01 12:06:00 Any chance the people you are "helping" are now completely fed up with your efforts and wishing they had never let you near it?

Just asking.

Nope.

I've done it numerous times. Disconnect yourself from the internet, any LAN connections as well. Let it try to connect 3-5 times can't remember how many exactly, then it will give you the option for phone activation.

The keygens work on the same principle, phone activation. If crackers can get around the activation surely a legitimate user can activate the product they paid for.

320442 2005-02-01 16:00:00 It sounds like you have a bad install. Try uninstalling and starting again. This time make sure that your computer is not doing anything else during the installation. Vince (406)
320443 2005-02-01 16:19:00 I ment to add that even moving the mouse can wreck the instalation of some software. Vince Vince (406)
320444 2005-02-01 18:47:00 I have known NIS to block itself from live-updating, unless you click "Allow" and set it to "always". somebody (208)
