319975 2007-01-24 22:51:00 Looks like that NVATA.sys crashing is a common (and well known) problem, with the Nvidia drivers.

As shown in Google (www.google.co.nz)

The only way to fix it, by the looks of it, is to either uninstall the latest drivers, get an earlier version, or uninstall the Nvidia drivers altogether and let Windows install the drivers for you.

Only thing is, if the videocard you're using has TV out etc, they may not work with the MS default drivers.

319976 2007-03-11 01:17:00 Ok another addition to this error

I only ever get this error when I try to burn to a DVD in Nero 7 or any other burning software for that matter, I can brun any other format other than video I.E .avi .mpg etc etc so it's definatly a video card problem, where would I uninstal the nvdia drivers?

Cheers

319979 2007-03-11 21:11:00 I dont think the video card drivers are the prob.

It'll be the way you're burning it to DVD.

If you want to DVD and watch it on a standalone DVD, you'll need something like Nerovision not Nero.

I think Nero will treat it as a data DVD and you'll only be able to play it on a computer, not a normal DVD.

But if you want to uninstall the drivers, theyre in control panel / add / remove programs

319980 2007-03-11 22:47:00 Ok

I'll have a look and try nero vision and let you know how I got on

319981 2007-03-11 23:01:00 Ok

I'll have a look and try nero vision and let you know how I got on

Only thing is, you may need a serial or have to pay for the plugin for the DVD option to appear. It isnt free.

319982 2007-03-12 14:24:00 Update: It seems I was right assuming is not a hardware problem or at least not defective hardware (see post on Dec 19 2006).
The resource conflict got worse soon after my post and I had to keep disabling devices. I restored an earlier XP image backup and no more errors, even with all hardware installed and enabled.
In the process, I gave XP64, Mac OS X x86 and Vista a shot. I was surprised by the lack of XP64 drivers after it was out for a while. Not surprised by Vista lack of drivers, just concerned the XP64 driver status is a sign for Vista not planning to support other than newest hardware. Also disappointed with Vista "new features" (including "security") - I felt the OS is trying to prove to me I'm an idiot and I don't know how to properly use my PC and if I do want to change something important I'm either out of luck or I have to surf the net for hacks.Mac OS X was OK but I realized I have no other programs for Mac.
Long story short, for the last couple of months I'm running openSUSE 10.2 in dual boot with XP (for a couple of games). Also using VMware for a couple of XP programs I still need (from work). All hardware supported (including SLI - not supported by Vista when I tested).
So, same hardware - no more "IRQL not less ..." nor BSOD.
