320070 2005-02-02 03:59:00 Well this guy (www.rawiriblundell.com) used some capacitors from JayCar to fix up a dead motherboard.

320071 2005-02-02 04:16:00 hey there I could do with four 3.300uf's@6.3v but if you reckon 10v will work.............if you could either post soem more info about where this Farnells is or maybe contact me thru the private messages so i can purchase some off you ? drcspy (146)
320072 2005-02-02 04:51:00 Voltage rating is unimportant, as long as it is equal to or higher than the original component.

The capacitance is also not 100% critical if using good quality low ESR caps. Substituting 2200µF for 3300µF is no big deal as most caps are generously rated and often measure higher than their notional capacitance value.

I would perhaps be a little more careful if replacing a large number of caps that are all in parallel, as the resultant capacity and impedance could be a bit lower than the required spec, but don't sweat it if you are only changing two or three.

Jaycar would be the preferred supplier, RS Components and Farnell charge like wounded bulls.

Cheers

erm... ok... how about you go sit in the corner and be quiet until you've got something constructive to add?

320074 2005-02-02 10:20:00 Ref to Farnell for 3300UF low esr 10V cap
nz.farnell.com

I think I will take a punt on the 2200's from Jaycar. At least I will know what the problem is if the mobo goes unstable! In any event, I have seen where someone tested the companion caps that looked OK on a board that had crook ones and all were naff. So maybe 2200 good ones are still better than naffed 3300's!

Thanks and cheers,
Lindsay.

320075 2005-02-12 21:14:00 Really new to the site here.

I having the same problem with my mobo. I have a Jabil Athlon 1.2Ghz Mobo and 3 capacitors have blown.

They're rated 1500uf 10v and are an exact match to the ones listed in the previous link.

My dilema is that I am having great difficulty in finding a retailer who has them in stock here in Toronto, much still carries them.

Should I go up to a 2200uf or are there other options for me.

Thanks in advance,
Peace out.

320076 2005-02-13 01:10:00 Welcome to Press F1.

Extra capacity, within reason, won't hurt (as long they will fit). In fact, higher capacity units will have a higher peak current rating, and lower ESR.

The capacitance tolerance on electrolytics tends to be something like
-50%/+100% or so, anyway.

320077 2005-02-13 02:51:00 Hi Supastar

Go up to 2200µF, it won't cause any problems .

Best source is a hobbyist electronic store, but if you can't find one, go to any electronics repair shop (that actually repairs audio/TV/video, there should be a few around) and ask them if they have any, or can they get them .

If really stuck, order them from Jaycar Electronics in New Zealand or Australia . They would airmail them to you I'm sure .

320079 2005-05-20 06:11:00 Yea I need a few of the 1500uf 6.3v caps too - but I'll get 2200's if you reckon they'll work. Agent_24 (57)
