2005-02-01 05:48:00 | HI, need some help and suggestions. PC started to freeze or turn itself off. First we would notice a quick flicker on screen then freeze or just seems to turn off and screen is black. Any ideas whats wrong. Did full virus scan. Put in another powerboard and divided things up in case of power overload. Many thanks Althea :badpc:

2005-02-01 05:55:00 | Hi Althea What were you doing on the computer when this lock up occurs? How long does it run for before it happens? When your monitor goes black, is the computer still running (you can open/close CD drawer, or hard drive activity light still flickers)? Have you check the monitor cables are all securely in place?

2005-02-01 07:59:00 | Thanks for the reply Jen. Sometimes we are ding nothing and come back to computer and its of, black screen, and won't reactivate when you touch a screen and other times we are using mouse or opening a programme. I must check next time whether we can open cd drawer. :2cents:

2005-02-01 17:02:00 | Yes it is XP. It has just done it again and checked the CD drawers still work and green light is still in box. Could it be monitor? I pushed restart button and its working again. Thanks Althea :help:

2005-02-01 19:43:00 | More to my saga, taken more exact notes of what happens. The monitor light flicks as if its in shut down, but when you touch a key it doesn't start up. Put a CD in to see if it would start but light goes on but then not the usual noises like the drive is reading it. You can hear the fans still going in box but can't get it to "wake up" Happening more...Any more ideas appreciated. Thanks Althea :@@:

2005-02-01 21:02:00 | Start > Settings > Control Panel > Power Options Set Monitor, Hard disks & System Standby to NEVER Then go to the Hibernate tab & untick Enable Hibernation This may help If this doesn't help then I suspect a faulty PSU, Ram or Video driver may be causing You could aslo have a look in Control Panel > Adminstrative tools > Event Viewer & see if any problems have been logged

2005-02-01 21:24:00 | Ok, thanks for that, yes got to the events logs and there are heaps. Most have the code 7036, 7035 Service Control or 1003 DHCP Does that make any sense. IS there somewhere to go to see what those codes mean Thanks Althea :(

2005-02-02 00:05:00 | You can find out more about the codes here (www.microsoft.com l&ProdName=Windows%20Operating%20System&MajorMinor=5.1&LCID=1033) Although, it might be more useful to google the codes seperately so you can get a (hopefully) more useful answer than what Microsoft offer.
