319920 2005-01-31 23:45:00 hi friends,
Is there anyone of you who has used or seen in use the Belkin Pre-N wireless network system? The Airpoint costs 450 $ and a Notebook card 249 $ and I wonder whether it really delivers value for money. I currently use cabled ADSL over a Speed Pro modem, downloading at 16 kBs. What would my download speed be with the cheaper wireless cards in home, distance about 30 meter? Would it be worthwhile to burn the money on the 802.11 g Belkin Pre-N?

Hope someones seen that thing.

Cheers

Johan

Your download speed is set by your ADSL provider/ADSL modem so it wouldn't be effected. The 802.11n connection would be much faster than you could hope for with ADSL

As for transfer speeds through the 802.11n, in real life you can hope for about 60% of the stamped speed. Eg for 802.11g the rated speed is 54mbps but in reality one only gets closer to 25-35.

319922 2005-01-31 23:53:00 There is a review of the Belkin Pre-N in the February issue of PC World. It makes very interesting reading if you compare the actual results (speed and coverage area) with the claimed results in the Belkin ad which appears a few pages earlier in the same issue.
