2014-07-04 00:32:00 | Courtesy of the Labour Party's deep pockets. www.stuff.co.nz Labour is planning two major education announcements, expected to include a plan to provide iPads or laptops to school students, at its three-day congress starting in Wellington today. Oops, wrong forum

2014-07-04 01:58:00 | Makes perfect sense.. make claims that kids are going to school hungry & without lunches give them laptops its no worse than nationals lolly scrambles ...hint at lowered taxes, then increase other taxes even more (gst, petrol tax, ACC levies) I remember those first 'tax reductions' , lowered PAYE . I got an extra $10 a week out of it. What an absolute joke

2014-07-06 05:57:00 | As I understand it, they actually have to pay for them on a weekly basis @ approx $3.50 per week. They are not 'freebies' as you suggest. | ruup (1827) | |
2014-07-06 08:20:00 | Well actually I don't think Labours education policies are a lolly scramble at all they are actually looking at addressing several problem areas, this being one of them, the other is burgeoning class sizes under the current incompetent idiots. However the rest of Labours policies don't stack up very well at all. The best we can expect from either party is more bitching and total lack of government as we have now, we should sack the lot of them. Cunliffe can't be trusted, Judith Collins would make a worthy opponent for Joseph Parker, What the Hekia Parata should be hung drawn and quartered for her handling of the Christchurch schools and any clown of any party who had a hand in the Novapay fiasco should be in prison.

2014-07-06 18:55:00 | Yeah Novapay has been a complete blunder. The rollout of UFB has been a sham and an absolute joke with deployments taking months on average. The 3-strikes law is a failure and complete and utter BS. All of it goes to show that politicians haven't got a @#$% clue what they're doing when it comes to technology. Screw iPads, give students Chromebooks. Better still, don't *give* anything at all. I agree with the aforementioned sentiments about hungry kids, what use is a tablet / PC to them? "Here it will help you get a job one day by learning better now, never mind that you still can't focus and have the attention span of a goldfish and zero interest aside from Angry Birds." Yep that'll be us, regardless of it being a red or blue government in power at the next election. Its a joke, just like Mana parties "100% employment - Jobs for everyone" from the last election. Designed to get fools to vote for them, nothing more.

2014-07-07 08:48:00 | Good grief. Even the costs of servicing and replacing the dead and damaged pads would be horrendous. Oh for the days when the worst destruction a kid could do was to snap your ruler, your pen, and to use sheets of paper for darts or spitballs. But now they can experiment to see at which point a chair leg placed onto an ipad will cause the battery to combust in dramatic fashion. More fun than a mentos in a bottle of coke, and just as messy. Got pushed into the school pool? Pity about the ipad in your bag. Never mind, the taxpayer has got your back. Itinerant pupils that get moved from school to school, always supplied but never returning the tech? Oh, too bad, dear taxpayer. Lets just continue to pretend that the taxpayer can keep on coughing up for these ridiculous expenses. Bugger the health budget. We can pour billions into Apple instead.

Or we could just teach our kids about being responsible. It is possible and does happen quite often. Our parents taught us to be responsible for other peoples property many many moons ago so what's stopping us from passing those traits on to our kids? |
