1364675 2014-01-08 05:06:00 So, I ended up putting an ever so slightly bent SD card into my camera (don't ask why, long story). Now my camera won't read any SD cards (yea, stop laughing ;)). Obviously I'll be taking it to a camera shop, but any idea how expensive this is likely to be? Nick G (16709)

1364678 2014-01-08 06:15:00 Daughter has just had a failed SD card in her camera. I tried one of my cards in her camera and the same message came up - the card needed formatting, though it was readable in my camera. We took the SD card and her camera into Photo and Video in Merivale today, and the card was confirmed as toast, though they will try to recover the pics off it. The shop owner examined the camera, powered it up and down, and then inserted a new card, and the camera was fine. He said the camera may carry over the error message to the next card, even though there is no fault with it. Cost - nothing, except for a new SD card of a reputable (ie non-Dick Smith variety).

So have a little faith. Maybe try powering the camera up and down with the card out, and then try inserting and restarting the camera. You never know. Failing that, take the camera into a reputable camera shop that isn't interested in selling you a new camera immediately, and you may be lucky. I see you are in ChCh = go to Photo and Video in Merivale Mall (I am not a shareholder, but my family has dealt with them for years, and have never had a dud transaction with them).

Good advice, thanks :)

1364680 2014-01-08 11:24:00 For a SLR I heard someone paid $300US ....

For a 10yr old camera I replaced my card reader inside b/c it was buggy not bent - $60-70 refurbished part.

1364682 2014-01-09 01:24:00 Took it into Photo and Video today - they were very helpful. The guy there had a look inside, said he was pretty sure something was bent, and it'd probably cost around $300-400 to fix. Nick G (16709)
1364683 2014-01-09 02:05:00 Oh, bugger. We were lucky then - only the card was toast and it hadn't damaged the camera. Sorry for your troubles. :-( John H (8)

Kinda expected it tbh, so at least it wasn't a huge surprise.

Thanks for putting me onto those guys though, they're pretty good!
