1363844 2013-12-29 04:10:00 Over a number of years I have worked on both my husband’s and my own family tree using Family Tree Maker Version 7. We regularly backed up and recently our computer packed a sad and had to be replaced. The new computer is running W 8.1 and unfortunately FTM Version 7 is not compatible. If we purchase FTM 2014 and install this, will it open my Version 7 files that are in MY DOCUMENTS. With 5000 names in my trees I don’t want to lose anything :crying

Speedy – what version FTM are you using on W8.1 please?? And did you have everything on a previous version.

1363845 2013-12-29 07:06:00 You could try some sort of flowchart programme. Greg (193)
1363846 2013-12-29 08:23:00 I'm using FTM 2012 on Win7 not 8.1. I am dual booting 7 and 8, but I haven't installed it on 8.1. This is the only version I've had, didnt have it previously

If you've got a CC you could get it here (shop.avanquest.com tware%2Ffamily-tree-maker-deluxe-160244&hbxtrack=&asus=0) for $59 AU (looks like this is about $61.34 NZ) + 20 postage if you want the boxed version

1363847 2013-12-29 08:35:00 I think that site is safe. I havent ordered from it myself (yet) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1363848 2013-12-29 08:37:00 I would contact the people who make the Family Tree Maker software and ask them. I'm sure they would tell you.

And if it's not backwards compatible then it's a shitty program.

1363849 2013-12-29 08:37:00 Is FTM part of Ancestry.com? I don't know how FTM works but Ancestry does a lot of the research for you, and provides hints for you to follow up and decide whether they are relevant, in which case you add the info to your tree. Brilliant program, even if you are researching common names. Richard (739)
1363850 2013-12-29 08:39:00 You can sync from Ancestry.com if youre a subscriber Speedy Gonzales (78)
1363851 2013-12-29 08:45:00 Cant see what it wouldnt be compatible. Looks like every other version is, even version 1. According to this (www.microsoft.com 08.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=family%20tree%20maker%20version%207&Type=Both&CurrentPage=2&TotalPages=3&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&ProductName=family%20tree%20maker%20version%207&LastRequested=5) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1363852 2013-12-29 08:49:00 I have used GenoPro for several years. If you can export from FTM to .GED file then Genopro can import them. Genopro keeps being updated and I don't think I've paid any more since the original purchase about 10 years ago. (Check with the Genopro web pages) coldot (6847)
1363853 2013-12-29 11:19:00 By the way Coldot, your sig link is not working

Occasionally gone away to: http://pcforums.co.nz
actually links to pressf1.net.nz (which doesn't work (anymore), tho the link in the above quote does :waughh: ).
