1363493 2013-12-24 05:54:00 The patent on Roundup has expired - so there are lots of cheaper versions (360g of glyphosate per litre or something like that)

Use that first (it doesn't stay in the soil) - for the hardier weeds, try pctek's recommendations above.

1363494 2013-12-24 06:23:00 1 Litre of Roundup/Glyphosate is all you need not 20 litres, any woody weeds you may need something stronger which they won't sell you because you will not have a cert to apply

Eighth of an Acre is 50ftx100ft

1363495 2013-12-24 06:30:00 Won't you just end up with a big muddy patch when it rains? Wouldn't it be better to kill it all then grass it? Vege gardens? ManUFan (7602)
1363496 2013-12-24 06:38:00 Photo of the said back lawn may help ??????? is it just weeds? any garden? paths etc?

in summer it will be a dust bowl and annoy the crap out of the neighbours, and in winter a bog, but then i guess you wont be walking on it.
cover with ? concrete, pavers, stones, or shell rock, or crushed shells ?

1363497 2013-12-24 06:45:00 Re-classify it as a wilderness area and use your GPS when you need to find the clothes line. Or plant pine trees. They are a hardy sort of weed that smothers everything else. R2x1 (4628)

1363499 2013-12-24 06:46:00 Errr... petrol? Mower maintenance, parts etc? An extra hour and half wasted time each week? It's not blinking brain surgery to understand. Crikey!

In that case why not just leave it alone?

1363502 2013-12-24 08:48:00 I moved a house onto my section a few years back. I had to put drains in as well turn a yard of weeds into lawn. I firstly sprayed the long grass with roundup and left it for a few months before I got stuck in levelling the yards with a spade, rotary hoe and the lawn mower. Weed killer does not last for long before new grass regenerates. I did re-seed after doing the spade work and rotary hoeing.

The dead grass did not compost too well.
