1378577 2014-07-08 09:42:00 Yes, I think I have decided to get an SSD drive as my OS drive in the new PC I am building now.

I see some of them come looking like a card, others have a nice case.

I think I will go for a 250 gig one to give me plenty of room for my OS and programs.

I am looking at Samsung or Sandisk.

What do you think ?

1378578 2014-07-08 21:48:00 mSATA and M.2 are the ones that look like cards. some new motherboards have a slot for M.2s and new laptops for mSATA.

Personally, I'd go for a Samsung. They get good reviews and are good performers for the price. The 840 EVO is a good place to start.

1378579 2014-07-09 00:12:00 The mobo I'm building, has a M.2 slot, but I think if I did get a M.2 card, it'll use the bandwidth of 2 of the SATA ports (there's only 4 onboard). Speedy Gonzales (78)
1378580 2014-07-09 03:08:00 Best, as in best speed
or best value for money
or Best reliability

1378581 2014-07-09 09:39:00 I have just ordered one of those Samsung he 840 EVO a 250 gig one for my OS and program files.

I bought it as one said they were good above and I like Samsung and I wanted a 250 gig drive as 120 might just be cutting it fine.

I'll let you know if I think its faster in 2 weeks time.
But then I am building a whole new pc with new mbo and 8 gigs of Ram so it wont be a fair comparison.

But all the articles I have read say that SSD's are faster and inherently more reliable the HDDs.

But it wont be as fast as the German goal scoring in the first half.

1378582 2014-07-09 11:46:00 Mine is a Samsung 250GB 840 EVO as well. Hooked up to a SATA 3 port and using AHCI and it goes very well. Think it is a bit faster than the German goal scoring although it would be a close run thing!!

Bought a $25 plus freight 5.25 panel off TM that has 2 USB3 sockets and a tray for mounting the SSD. Gave me the SSD mount but also brought out the USB3 sockets to the front.
