1378964 2014-07-10 22:05:00 I won't bore you with the details, but I have acquired a phone that was bought and used in the UK which I'm thinking of giving to an elderly friend of mine. How can I tell whether it is locked or not? Tony (4941)
1378965 2014-07-10 22:14:00 Put a sim in it, if it doesnt work it's probably locked Speedy Gonzales (78)
1378966 2014-07-10 22:40:00 I thought that might be the case as I did just that. How do I get it unlocked? Tony (4941)
1378967 2014-07-10 22:43:00 You would have to root it / put another rom on it (for whatever the brand / model of the phone is), so it'll work anywhere / with anyone. It's kind of similar to jailbreaking an Iphone Speedy Gonzales (78)
1378968 2014-07-10 22:43:00 Try Ebay for unlock services or the original carrier it came from, they may do it for free as it's outside their area.. paulw (1826)
1378969 2014-07-10 23:30:00 I've just had another look at the phone, and when it powers up its says "three.co.uk" which was presumably the original supplier, but the SIM is for O2. That makes me think it must have been unlocked to be able to use the different carrier - is that right? I looked at the three.co.uk website and it says the phone would have been sold locked unless it was after bought after Jan 2014. I'm fairly sure it would have been before then. Tony (4941)
1378970 2014-07-10 23:36:00 What make/model phone is it? CYaBro (73)
1378971 2014-07-10 23:43:00 It's a Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570. Tony (4941)
1378972 2014-07-11 00:05:00 Be aware the S5570 supports 900/2100 3G frequencies, so it would not be usable on Telecom's network (requires 850 / 2100), but should work on Vodafone. inphinity (7274)
1378973 2014-07-11 00:08:00 That's useful to know - thanks. Tony (4941)
