1378819 2014-07-08 13:06:00 Hi all.

Got a problem. Friend has a Acer Aspire L3600. Is a SFF desktop pc and he did a silly thing of updating the bios from Acer using there windows bios installer and after the pc restarted he now has black screen of death and beeps: 1 long + 1 short.

I have downloaded the bios for the pc off the net and unzipped it to a folder. How do I go about making a usb stick bios recovery tool?

Have had a little look on net but just cannot find a detailed why on how to do it.

The latest bios on the acer site is BIOS_R01-B1 and the stock one was like BIOS_R01-A0 from what I can see looking on google.

Thanks for any help.

1378820 2014-07-09 00:19:00 There are mobos that support flashing from cd or USB flash drive (ASUS). For failed BIOS updates.

But, I dont think this system is one of them. If it can be done with a USB stick or cd, you would still have to make it bootable. So, it can boot into DOS. Has someone / anyone got a floppy?

Dont have a floppy drive or floppy disc's. Did watch a video on youtube about restoring bios with black screen bu it was on a acer aspire one netbook. They had different files in the BIOS ZIP file.

I seen that there is sites and on ebay that you can buy a bios chip to replace the one on mobo for like $15.

Dont forget you'll also need to buy a SMD Soldering station to remove & install new chip. :-)

Try Acer's support. They may have a way to fix this.
Else you''l need to take it to a laptop repair specialist that might be able to do this sort of thing (ie not a general PC repair shop)

1378825 2014-07-09 04:22:00 You could probably buy a chip then buy an eeprom programmer off Ebay. But then you may also need a working chip to copy it from Speedy Gonzales (78)

You can buy the chip already programmed and just put into mobo.

Just picked up the pc and powered it on black screen. 1 long beep and then 1 short beep. hard drive light lights for a bit. So cracked open the case and removed hdd and dvd drive and powered it up same results so removed wifi and tv cards and powered it up and same results. Then removed ram and powered up and it changes to one long never ending beeping.

Have put it back together and cleared the cmos and powered back up. no change still the 1 long 1 short beep.

Bios chip has text on it. R01-A2 ander under that CKS C8BE

Time to look up the usb recovery again and see if i can find a usb floppy drive.
