320725 2005-02-03 06:13:00 Hullo again - I downloaded a trial version of Proshow Gold last night. It looks good, but unfortunately when I "burned to disk" - it wasn't successful. My DVD player doesn't recognise it - oh bother! I burned to video CD - have I done something "glaiket" (a Scottish word for 'silly, foolish')? :help:

Cheers

320726 2005-02-03 06:23:00 So did the videocd work?? Sometimes external dvds dont play a certain format (if this is an external dvd, you're talking about) .

When you say it wasnt successful, it didnt burn properly, or it did burn OK, BUT didnt play in the DVD??

And what are you burning to? A cd burner or a dvd burner??

320727 2005-02-03 06:36:00 Prompt reply! Thanks...

Answers:
1. DVD attached to TV (in another room)
2.The program said it was successful (ProShow Gold), but the disk didn't play in the DVD (as above)
3.I'm burning to a CD burner (in my computer) - this has produced other successful CDs that play on our DVD, photos, music and a music backgrounded slideshow.

So... what am I missing?

Cheers

320728 2005-02-03 06:49:00 OK what brand is this DVD?

And in the manual for it (if u have it), what formats, does it say it supports??
ie: Jpeg/CDRW/mp3 etc . Does it say it supports Videocd??

Also, if this DVD has a setup screen, look for PBC somewhere . If its on or off, turn it on or off . If its similar to the dvd player I have here, a Phillips, it can only play videocds, if this option is off/on . I cant remember now it isnt on and connected to a TV . See how that goes .

320729 2005-02-03 07:10:00 Mmmm - pause while scratches around house for manual....

Answers:
1. LG DV7711P
2. (slightly puzzled!) DVD, VCD2.0, VCD 1. 1, CD, MP3, WMA, JPEG
3. Yes we seem to be able to on/off PBC (not sure where that control is though)

:help:

320730 2005-02-03 07:48:00 Ah ok RM . I would try and turn PBC OFF (or on if its off now) if u can find out how to turn it off .

Then chuck that cd in . See what happens .

It looks like it MIGHT play videocds (VCD2 . 0) . It does do jpeg, so that shouldnt be a prob . Has this cd got a menu to it of any kind?? With titles etc??

If so, yup I have a feeling, if u can find PBC and turn it on it'll play . BUT if it does work, then it may go straight into whatever u did, without titles etc .

320731 2005-02-03 08:08:00 Right, ok, but I'll have to go and have some sleep now... Tomorrow comes all to soon, and I'll have to tackle the 'fight' again. I'll look at it again tomorrow night...
Thanks for that. I'll report progress (of lack of it!) tomorrow!

Cheers

320732 2005-02-03 10:36:00 Does your computer play the show? Is it a CDR or CDRW? CDRW I have had problems with .

Another thing to look for, many (most? all??) DVD players won't recognize the disk unless it has been finalised .

The prog is good, though, eh . Try the slide zooms and pans .

Cheers,
Lindsay .

320733 2005-02-04 05:41:00 Hi all - after a good night's sleep and a drive to Kingston & back (for work - taking about 1 and a half hours each way), I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it - and lo and behold the darn thing works!

Lessons learnt:
1 . Don't work on tricky computer things when tired
2 . Don't work on tricky computer things after a glass of wine
3 . Don't work on tricky computer things when both tired and after having a glass of wine!

Thanks to all concerned - much appreciated, and I'm sure I have a lot more to find out about this program .

Cheers
