320702 2005-02-02 09:35:00 www.modemsite.com deals with Conexant instal problems.
I've always preferred Lucent/Agere based modems, at least the generic Agere driver has proven to be universal so far.

320703 2005-02-02 09:43:00 A small thought - you downloaded a zip file and unzipped it into a folder. Can you open the folder and look for a file called setup or install?

If one of these files is there - double click it and let it run. If you have the wrong driver for the modem then, if intellegent life exists in the driver, it won't install. If it is the correct driver it will.

The idea of a new modem certainly appeals !
When i open the modem files there are a couple of exes,
one is uninstall and the other wont do anything...
no setups apart from an ini.

320706 2005-02-02 20:02:00 Conexant modems are a real pain if you don't have the original drivers.

Mostly, you have to go through the add new hardware - select from list - modems -have disk ,way, pointing it to the driver folder.

320708 2005-02-03 07:29:00 Ah.. so it was the old "wrong driver for the hardware" story. Easy to do and sooooooo frustrating.

A pity the manufacturers can't come up with a decent error message rather than:
a. nothing or
b. Could Not Detect Hardware

Glad it worked.
