2005-02-02 06:33:00 | Thanks guys for your input, its very appreciated . I contacted the help desk, the people I talked to were very good, the first time took about 30 minutes and came to conclusion it was my machine . We connected in my laptop and found it had an excellent connection rate . This test . jetstreamgames . co . nz/speed/ADSLdownload1MB . html" target="_blank">www . jetstreamgames . co . nz was over 2000 for the laptop and only 500 to 700 for the desktop . However the slow desktop has left everyone baffled . I upgraded the network software, to no help, downloaded the speedguide optimiser, which made no difference . I am looking at bingobongo's site . home . att . net/index . htm" target="_blank">cable-dsl . home . att . net but havn't worked out what to do with it . Surely I don't need a new pc!! Thanks for everyones comments :)

I'd imagine that if it was faulty or you had a crook cable, it would not work at all. Do you have a network set up, even an occasional one (you mention laptop). If so, how does it connect, how/what router settings? Perhaps you have something leeching your bandwidth. Have you checked your connection in a firewall to see what is connected whilst online? |

2005-02-02 07:24:00 | Nope, no network, I did have with the second machine that went phut, I am using the network card from that network as my connection . The tech guy said it would be better than the USB as I only have usb1, which is slower . I upgraded the network drivers realtek rtl8029(as), but it made no difference (sigh) . Maybe I need to try another one .

2005-02-02 20:39:00 | "The tech guy said it would be better than the USB as I only have usb1, which is slower." Until you get a new Ethernet card to try, why not reinstall the modem as USB - it will be pretty fast even though it is USB 1. Full info on the CD. Cheers T

2005-02-03 03:20:00 | I wonder what you have done to your Opera ? No-one else seems to have had this effect. What browser in your laptop, which you earlier said was fast enough.
