| 321321 | 2005-02-04 00:17:00 | Firstly thanks everyone who helped with my previous problem with the mac, I sorted it by downloading and reinstalling the O/S now the only problem I have is that the back-up battery appears dead What does the battery actually do, I believe the machine i got has been sitting around for a year or two not being used, so do I perhaps just need to leave it on for a while to "recharge" the battery, the only problem seems to be the date/time not being kept in memory Does anyone know where in NZ I would find one of these batteries being sold (cheaply) and what the price would be The battery model number is 922-0750 the OEM versions are numbered rayovac 841 obviously I could try a mac store, but most "brand" shops tend to be expensive, I have seen it being sold for anything from $8 US to $30 US on the net and as the computer only cost $5, I don't want to spend heaps of money on it. And yes I have tried Google NZ Thanks all Nigel |

| 321322 | 2005-02-04 00:52:00 | heh maybe you wan to look at this "trick" mac battery (www.applefritter.com) I've got a bunch of old macs at work, I could hunt for a good battery amongest them. For some iMacs I just found some batteries at electrician supply store. They don't recharge and having your clock wrong is pretty annoying. Probably not as important as a battery on a PC (which if your bios settings get set back to the default settings can be a real pain). |

| 321325 | 2005-02-04 03:03:00 | It's a 4.5 V battery, and the only problem might be the connector.(and room inside the case?) Get a 3 AA cell holder from Jaycar or Dick Smith , and solder the dead battery's cable and conector to that.(The connector pinout looked like (+) (key) (nothing) (-) in one of the Google abstracts from "rayovac 841"). Red will be positive, and black will be negative.;) Put in 3 AA alkalines and you're in business. If it won't fit in the case, use longer wires and tape it to the outside of the case. $5 -- shocking isn't it? I bought a computer today -- a DSE "VZ200 color computer". It was in a two box auction lot which I got for $5 . I wasn't buying the computer ... |
