321249 2005-02-03 22:27:00 I have just purchased a new LCD 17" Philips monitor to replace an old 17" CRT.

The manufacturer of the monitor says it should run at maximum resloution. It looks great! However the Icons in the task bar are too small. The only obvious settings are to change the icons from small to large. In practice this means tiny to gi normous. Is there an intermediate setting?

Also, how can I enlarge the fonts in the Program list? The desktop icons are OK

321250 2005-02-03 22:43:00 Hi Tom Drummond
and welcome to F1 if it comes to that
If you go to control panel>display>appearance>advanced>you will see a Desktop in shadow > pulldown from ther e to see icon size and remember as you alter the icon you have to alter the vertical and horizontal gaps as well

321251 2005-02-04 01:56:00 Thanks Effie

I have already changed the desktop icons by doing what you suggest, the problem is the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen, and also the small fonts in the program list i.e. Start/All Programs. How do we enlarge them?

321252 2005-02-04 02:01:00 Change the resolution, so the resolution isnt so high.

And if u have XP turn cleartype on

321253 2005-02-04 03:23:00 For fonts you can try: control panel> display properties> settings tab for monitor> advanced> change DPI... which seems to make everything bigger

Also display properties> appearance> drop down menu for fonts> large fonts etc

For icons: display properties> appearance tab> effects button> tick 'use large icons' box

Takes a lot of fiddling around to get it (almost)right.

I've got 19" lcd at 1024, best seems to be 145dpi, large fonts, large icons.

321254 2005-02-04 21:16:00 gidday tom,

I have a philips 17" lcd monitor, and had the same problem. I eventualy
reduced the resolution to 1024 x 768 left the DPI setting at 96 and changed the refresh rate to 70 Hertz.

If you find the font it a bit washy download from microsoft a font tuner
called 'cleartype tuning'. incedently make sure cleartype is selected under
the effects tab.

good luck,

321255 2005-02-05 02:06:00 Thanks for all the help. It is mutch better however, the fonts on this web site for instance are fine but my homepage NZ Herald fonts are too small. Any ideas? Tom Drummond (7135)
321256 2005-02-05 02:44:00 Can you believe they make it so flamin complicated? :badpc:  Cicero (40)
321257 2005-02-05 03:16:00 A suggestion... try using Firefox browser if you aren't already.

In drop down view menu at top there is option for text zoom on a 'page by page' basis (200% seems to do the trick)

Otherwise in drop down edit menu> preferences> expand (double click) appearance> fonts. Has different font size/type and DPI options.

If you're using IE I don't know if it has this feature as I haven't used it in ages.
