321236 2005-02-03 21:59:00 When I hit CTRL ALT DEL, the task manager pops up and it goes away like immediately.. what is wrong?? How do I fix? Slacker (5977)
321237 2005-02-03 22:03:00 Do a scan with spybot / adaware / virus scanner, if theyre installed.

Sounds like you've caught spyware or a virus or something.

321238 2005-02-03 22:04:00 What operating system is this? Does the same thing happen if you right click on an empty section of the taskbar and select Task Manager? Jen (38)

321240 2005-02-03 22:25:00 Its XP.. I ran Process Explorer, no NETSTATT.exe or anything. I hit CTRL ALT DEL and it still does the same, it shows the little green box (Bottom right, to show the program opened) then if I mouse over it goes away. And if I right click on the toolbar it does not disapeer.. ~confused~ Slacker (5977)
321241 2005-02-03 23:07:00 Bump...... anybody?? I need help, why isn't it working Slacker (5977)
321242 2005-02-03 23:12:00 Did your updated antivirus software give the all clear? There are other viruses as suggested on the page johnboy linked to apart from the NETSTATT one.

Also, take a look at this - xp_emegencyutil.exe - Creates usable copies of REGEDIT, MSCONFIG and Task Manager (www.dougknox.com).

Also click start and in the run box type sfc /scannow "there is a space after sfc" . This will run the windows file checker . It will ask for your instalation cd if it finds any thing amiss .

321244 2005-02-04 01:21:00 I have come across this one before. It was caused by a worm/virus and the only way to get Task Manager, etc working again was by running HijackThis to disable it in order to run other cleaning tools to clean out the scraps.

Go to the forum's Spyware FAQ for the link to HijackThis (and other tools) and post a log here for help.
