| 321446 | 2005-05-16 20:47:00 | I think we're getting away from the original question.... Which is faster? Internal HDs or external USB 2 HDs? It's funny how everybody LOVES to talk about USB 2 vs. Firewire... Do a google search on the topic. There's plenty of information out there... :) |

| 321447 | 2005-05-17 02:33:00 | Grizz77 has a point. USB2.0 is theoretically faster than Firewire, but FW has its own specialities.... Basically, there should be no speed difference (in theory). Here's my PC: SuperNova root # hdparm -tT /dev/hda /dev/hdb /dev/sda /dev/hda: Timing cached reads: 348 MB in 2.02 seconds = 172.05 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 34 MB in 3.04 seconds = 11.20 MB/sec /dev/hdb: Timing cached reads: 364 MB in 2.01 seconds = 180.76 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 54 MB in 3.08 seconds = 17.52 MB/sec /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 404 MB in 2.01 seconds = 201.33 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 38 MB in 3.04 seconds = 12.51 MB/sec Admittedly /dev/sda had a torrent running off it at the time Chill. |
