| 321410 | 2005-02-04 06:49:00 | evening every one re my thread last night looks like i am upgradeing to xp . my father has xp home on his hp pavillin lap top and was wandering wether it could be put on my pc and good old dad wants to put xp professional on the lap top if i can do this how do i tell if it is tied some how to the laptop? it has got the xp disk with it and i have reformatted it about a month ago i have hered that so disks can only go with the lap top it came with |

| 321412 | 2005-02-04 07:05:00 | If XP Home came with the Pavilion Laptop, then it is tied to the laptop and will not install on another PC. Also its unlikely to be legitimate to do so under the license, as it will be an OEM version that cannot be "separated" from the original hardware. |

| 321413 | 2005-02-04 08:09:00 | everning again dear old dad wants to up grade to xp pro beacause it is got better features for the programes he runs and uses in his day to day running of his bissnes but if it is a oem version then it looks like i don,t get a hand me down and we both have to get new copys thanks for your advice have not purchesed xp pro yet ps dad was going to buy the full xp pro for his laptop not just the upgrade |

Have a look at the CD you have and actually LOOK at the End User License Agreement. Very often the EULA will say that you can install WinXP and Microsoft Office on one desktop and one laptop assuming you are the main user of both. |

Very true for Microsoft Office, but never (as far as I know and have seen by reading all EULA's) for Windows operating systems. of any version. |
