| 321245 | 2005-02-03 19:55:00 | When I was running "XL97" I used to get quite a bit of help from the programme when writing a formula. Since Ive upgraded to "XL2000" the only help I ever get is one missing bracket. Thats the only time the Do you mean query appears. The rest of the time it just rejects until I sort it out myself. The question is am I missing something because a help function is turned off somewhere, or not loaded at installation? Cheers Bob |

| 321246 | 2005-02-03 20:37:00 | Hi Bob, I havent used XL97 in so long I cant recall what you mean. Heres some examples that may assist... You type =SUM(A1:B1 and press enter. No warning is produced and Excel automatically adds the trailing bracket ie =SUM(A1:B1) You type =SUM and you want to get the dialog box that tells you what arguments to enter. To get this click the = icon thats directly to the left of the Formula Bar (and to the right of the X icon). You type =If(A1=3,If(A1=4,1,0) and press enter. A warning message is produced (its missing a right bracket) advising of the error and asking if you would like a suggested correction of =IF(A1=3,IF(A1=4,1,0)) With some errors Excel just produces an error message advising what to do or a suggested correction. hth |

| 321247 | 2005-02-03 21:07:00 | Yep that is happening OK Parry . Its just that XL97 seemed to be more clairvoyant when it came to guessing what I was trying to do . It seemed to be able to rearrange formula to make it work . Often this was after two or three failed attempts so it seemed it was following what you were doing . I suppose I shall have to struggle on manfully, put my teeth in and speak nicely to the damn thing . Always seems to think I want to argue! Says I have too many arguments but its the one thats arguing! :angry All I want it to do is fix my balls up! :) Cheers Bob |
