321897 2005-02-05 23:45:00 On my old laptop, everytime I open IE, it gives me the "Encountered a problem and needs to close" and asks me if I want to send an error report.

I can see the homepage load up underneath the message, so I don't think it's my connection... would switching browsers help?

BTW, I'm running Windows 98... Yes, it's an old laptop. I got for free so I don't care.

Why not give Firefox a go and see what happens.

321899 2005-02-06 00:19:00 Install another browser for a start... you'll be safer online. There is Mozilla, and Opera.

Also, if I remember correctly if you go into Add/Remove Programs and select Internet Explorer, it will come up with a Repair option. (can someone confirm this?)

If you don't have anything important on the laptop yet, it might be worthwhile re-installing Windows, then you will be sure everything is right.

Spyware/Adware scan - find the FAQ

Try upgrading (or reinstalling) IE6.

Or as suggested www.getfirefox.com
