321587 2005-02-04 18:51:00 Hello Folks,

I'm running XP on a Hewlett Packard and have just bought an external DVD writer. I've downloaded it onto my computer, but when I launch it, a little window pop's up telling me it doesn't recognize the driver.
Any hints? :help:

321588 2005-02-04 19:07:00 Greetings benelailax,

Welcome to PressF1!

Can I ask what you've downloaded on to your PC?
If you're running WinXP then there should be no need to install any drivers.

Have you checked in the Device Manager to make sure there are no conflicting devices.

What is it that you installed? The software that came with it?

What type of drive is it?

Cheers

321589 2005-02-04 19:31:00 Thanks, Chill.

Yes, I just installed the software that came with the driver. When I go to launch the program, I get the driver message.
I haven't checked the device manager yet as you sugested to see if there is any conflicting devices.
I'll go do that now.
Thanks again.

Can you give us the _exact_ error message? This has me curious.....

321592 2005-02-06 23:51:00 Being a little inexperienced with such things, I downloaded unecessary software that prevented XP from automatically recognizing, as chill pointed out, my DVD burner.
So, I dumped the software and away it went :@@:
I burned my first DVD. The problem now is, the DVD gets to the menu stage on my DVD player connected to my TV and freeze's there!
Is it a formatting difficulty I've run into?
The DVD burner is a Dick Smith dual system (DVD+ - RW).

321593 2005-02-07 00:18:00 Id say it'll be an issue with your menus, check you've set them up correctly with the software used.

What software?

321594 2005-02-07 00:27:00 Thanks Chill.

The software is 'DVD Decrypter' and 'DVD Shrink 3.2'.

321595 2005-02-07 01:57:00 Use DVD Shrink then and just remove the menu's altogether from your origional - easiest way :)

321596 2005-02-07 09:28:00 Hi Chill....Your mention of dumping files for menus, various features etc has reminded me of a question I have been going to ask. How do I recognise which files are which? Thanks for any help with this...Ken paradox (1082)
