2005-02-04 18:50:00 | when I browsed to a certain folder in my documents which should have contained 22 sub-folders i discovered that all but four were missing. Clicking on properties on the main folder tells me that it should contain 22 folders and 229 files, but again only four are viewable. How do I get my work back? Have tried system restore, chkdsk, error checking on the hard drive but all to no avail. I am assuming it is a problem with the fat but don't know what to do about it. I am running XP pro with NTFS as the file system. Hope you all can help?

2005-02-04 21:10:00 | Sorry showing all folders did not work. There were originally 22 folders and the parent folder still tells me they are there but only four display. | timmora2 (3280) | |
2005-02-04 22:24:00 | timmora2 Have you tried opening one of the 'missing' files from within an application, ie opening a Word document from within Word? Will that display the missing files? Oxie

2005-02-04 22:30:00 | Another thought .. When you right click a folder and choose Properties, and the General Tab you say it says the number of files and folders. Have you checked under Attributes it does not say 'Hidden'? Oxie

2005-02-05 00:41:00 | If you can download, steal , borrow a copy of Knoppix, you can boot off of it, and see if the folders are still there without any of windows trickery involved. You should be able to save them to another media as well, though I haven't done that myself yet.

2005-02-05 01:06:00 | Another thought ... have you tried repairing Internet Explorer? Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Double click Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Tools, click Repair Internet Explorer, Ok, and restart your computer. Oxie

2005-02-05 01:09:00 | Your security settings got messed up somehow on these files/folders ??? Properties -> Security tab . You might have to turn off simple file sharing under folder options.
