| 321624 | 2005-05-31 08:44:00 | Thank god :( I thought I was the only one with these problems! I have a Gigabyte GA7N400Pro2 and have a raid array booting off the onboard Sil3112 chip. Did everything Growly tried too, except I also tried installing Win2K and Me and '98. All without luck. I disabled all the on board devices one at a time too, IRQ's shuffled around etc. I tried to install WXP from the 6 boot floppies too without luck. The only way to boot with the Promise card in, was into DOS, or with PartitionMagic8! PM8 only recognised my 750Gig RAID5 (3+1) as 514Gigs. Win2K had an interesting insight as to where the problem may lie  WinXP just hangs at the detecting hardware screen (B4 the F6 option) and the screen goes black. Win2K gave me the option to F6, but then threw the error.... 'An unexpected error occurred at line 1531 in D:\nt\private\ntos\boot\setup\arcdisp.c' I searched for similars errors and found some but at 'line 1562...." and these were problems with RAM or ECC RAM. I replaced the ECC ram on the Promise with 128M nonECC ram (and also verified with the Promise supplied memtest utility that it worked. But the same error came up in Win2K :badpc: I've taken the Promise card back to my supplier, and want my money back. Hope this helps. |
